new website

Just a short message to say that Arno renewed my website: www.laurienhoos.nl The diary is integrated in the diary, so I won't update this blog anymore. If you still want to follow my preparation to Beijing... Have a look at my site.

Murphy's Law

After some bad luck in Rudy's parents house (three broken tv's, broken toilet and 3 months waiting for a new door in the bath room) I took Mr Murphy back to my house.

Yes you read it right, bad luck is chasing me. I won't go to Tallinn this weekend. The reason: 2 weeks ago the doctor found a tendinitis on the insertion of my adductor. After a week of rest and treatment i was pain free and i could start building up again. But I already decided before that I would not be fit enough to start a heptathlon. Luckily it is a small injury and it recovers fast.

I was very happy I could start training again... But as I said... Murphy is living in my house at the moment... Sunday night we (my parents, sister and me) went to a restaurant and at night I started to feel sick... that night I haven't slept one minute and the toilet and a bucket were my best friends. I think I threw up about 6 times.

So on my sister's birthday (she turned 20 on July 2) I was feeling really bad.
Today I feel a lot better, but I will not train. I will eat and get stronger. Tomorrow I will be back on the track.
I kicked Murphy out of the house, hopefully he will stay away :-)

Recovering well

I haven't exactly been regular in writing in my English diary. The reason for that is that I was ill and i had to do some exams. But now I don't have any excuses not to write anything.

In the last couple of weeks a lot has happened. As you all know: I competed in Gotzis. This didn't go the way I planned it to go. I went there with a cold (at least that is what i thought it was). At the first day the weather conditions were very hard. The wind was awful and i'm sure that this had some influence on my results. 13.66 hurdles, 1.70 high jump, 15.28 shot put and 24.85 in the 200, wasn't really good, but no damage had been done yet. The next day I woke up with an extremely tired body, a very painful chest and a severe headache.
During the warm up I felt so bad that I went to a doctor to find out if it was responsable to start. Because i did not have a high temperature I decided to finish the competition.
I started with a 5.98 long jump (after 2 fouls... AGAIN), 48.34 javelin and 2.27 in the 800. Not exactly what i had hoped for. And definately not what i'm capable of at the moment.

Coming back home I went to see my doctor and she diagnosed me with sinusitis and a bronchitis. She gave me antibiotics and I had to flush with salt water to free the sinus completely. She also said that it wasn't wise to start the second day, but she understood why I had to do it (to qualify for the world championhips, which i did with 6061 points).

I was supposed to start in Leiden last weekend, but i decided to train and visit Rudy in France. So my next competition will be the Papendal games on june 13.

We also decided that I will compete in the European Cup in Tallinn. For me it's important to do another heptathlon before the Worlds, to get the feeling back. 2 years is a long time... I noticed.

first competitions

My outdoor season started very promising. I started my season in Lisse on the 5th of May. I ran a 150 and did long jump. I ran 18.00s in the 150. I wasn't completely happy with that, because in training I did better than that, but I was pretty tired from the training camp and I can say now that I wasn't completely recovered yet.
The long jump was another event where I showed that I wasn't quite sharp yet. In the first jump I didn't hit the board but still jumped 5.77m. In the other jumps I didn't pass that mark any more and after 3 jumps I decided to stop jumping.

Today I ran my second competition in Hoorn. I competed in the hurdles and the javelin.
I felt pretty good before the start and Arno told me to run my own race. I ran a good race and finished in 13.67. I know I can do better because this was only my first race and I had a very bad start. For me anough reasons to leave the track with a big smile.

Then I had to warnp up for the javelin. This didn't feel really good, but some how I managed to throw 49.64 in my first throw. After some good throws and 2 very bad ones I improved that mark and I passed the 50m line for the first time since 2 years: 50.16m. I was very happy with my throws... I threw almost 4m fursther than I used to do outside of a heptathlon, so maybe I can improve my PB (50.85) in Gotzis. The javelin is my oldest PB (2004) and I would be very happy to improve this one too :-)

Warm weather training

I just came back from 15 days warm weather training in the South of France. The weather was very good (sunny and 25 degrees Celsius), except on my resting days (cloudy and rain). This is nothing new to me because in almost every training camp the weather doesn't cooperate with my needs to go to the beach :-))

Training went very well. I have done everything that was planned for this camp and the results were very promising. Hopefully I can show this in the coming competitions as well. My first competition will be in Lisse (National Circuit) where I will long jump and run a 150. The week after I want to start in Hoorn (hurdles and javelin) and on the 17th I want to compete on the first day of the Dutch multi events chapionships. Then I will compete in Gotzis.

I'm looking forward to the season.

One more week....

... and I will be driving to the South of France. At the moment I have a easy week to get fresh for some high quality training in Boulouris.
Last week was very hard. Training itself was hard, but I was very tired from South Africa as well. And although it was tough, I did do some very good sessions. The biggest difference between training before SA and after is that my lungs recover much quicker after a run. So I do not have to be scared I can't finish a session because of pain in my lungs... I can do sessions now that I wasn't able to finish before (for example: yesterday I ran 2x6x200 with 90sec and 10min recovery).

Hopefully we will have a good time in Boulouris and that I will return fit and ready to compete.

Last week I did three exams for school. One of them was very hard and I'm not quite sure if I passed that one. The other ones went pretty well. Right now I started studying for the last part of the year. I need to catch up quite some work, but on the other hand... I can keep on working when everybody else has got holidays, because I do a distance learning course. So I will finish the whole year before the next year starts.

Well that was it for now...

long time no see

It has been a while since I wrote something in English and hereby I apologize for this.
It has been a busy time since I was in Clermont-Ferrand.
I had to recover from my almost injury and that went pretty well. Then Rudy, Pelle JJ and me decided that we didn't want to spend the rest of the winter in Holland in the cold, so we booked a trainingcamp in Potchefstroom, South-Africa.

I had a fantastic time in Potch. I never trained on a grass track before, but I absolutely want to come back and do more training there next year. The people are very very friendly and hereby I want to say thanks to Jean and Alta for taking such good care of us.

Training went very well and I did a lot of work that i couldn't have done in Holland in the cold. We had superb weather, only the last couple of days it rained a lot, but hardly ever during training. We also went on a safari on teh resting day, which was a lot of fun and I want to thank Zen (a friend of Rudy) for taking us to his property and showing us all the African Animals.

For now I'm back in Holland for 2 weeks. Next week I have three exams (psychology, phonetics and teaching) and on the 15th of April I will leave Holland again to spend two weeks in the South of France to prepare the summer season. I officially received an invitation for gotzis. I am very happy with that, cause now I know what competition to aim for.
If everything goes the way I want it to go, I will open my season with a 150 and long jump on the 5th of may.

I'm looking forward to the summer season.
